Cutthroat Bridge

Sunday 17th July saw the last junior run of the summer term. It was hot, but not the hottest! Judging by the photos, people had fun.

Thanks to Jess and Michael for leading & everyone else for helping out.

Autumn Kickoff

Autumn term runs will start at the beginning of September. We’ll have the first one as a get together for the usual suspects – a chance to renew friendships and catch up on summer deeds.

The second weekend back (11th Sept) will be The Big Kick Off proper. 9:30 – 11:00.

The Kick Off is a great opportunity for new people to come along and see what its all about – or just dive in!

If you want to dip your toe in the water this is THE date for your diary!

Junior Runners (6 – 17) – The old hands will show the new aspirants the ropes and give the leaders a shake down.

Junior Leaders (15 y.o.+) – This is a great chance to get in on the ground floor! Get an introduction to the groups. Find out what being a Junior Leader might involve. Get to know the Adults you’ll be helping out.

Adult Helpers – Get to know the groups, the kids, the habits and the old hands running the show.

Leaders – those interested in becoming Run Leaders, coaching the groups can meet the great team of experienced leaders we have, the long standing helpers and the kids. You’ll find out what the development paths are and what the expectations are.

Everybody Else – even if you aren’t involved, come along for an adult’s run departing from the same start point at 9:30 sharp. Groups will be out 45 to 90 minutes.

The old hands, both kids and adults will be on hand to lead the running and to show everyone the ropes. It should be a great morning out for both young and not-so-young. Bring along some snacks for afterwards!

About the running. The running is distinctly cross country. There will be some paths. There will also be some vegetation & mud; plenty of mud (conditions permitting). There is frequently steep and technical terrain – but always with options that match skill levels. Trail shoes or full studded fell shoes are the best options. On a dry day its possible to get away with some ordinary trainers. If you need to borrow shoes let us know and we’ll see what we can do. A water proof top is a must. Gloves and a hat are always good and will be an absolute necessity as the autumn draws in.

Getting wet feet and having fun are what its about. Dark Peak do not run an elite athlete coaching programme; there’s time later in life for that sort of suffering!

To register interest, or find out more get in touch with “Juniors” via the Contacts page.

Details are in the calendar.

Family Camping Weekend – Bamford

Plans are well advanced for the summer family camping weekend on Bamford playing field 19th – 21st August. This event is organised by the Senior Club.

It should be a great weekend with lots of fun and games. All club members and their families are welcome.

Details are on the web site here!

Junior Championships

Still waiting on that special report!

Summer training

Summer holidays are here! What to do about training?

  1. Take some time off. Take at least one full week off over the holidays.
  2. Enjoy the running you do – don’t try too hard. Its important to have a mixture of running in what you do. All hard running is not good for you.
  3. Go on adventures. If you’re away, its fine to shelve a run to get out with familiy and friends – up a hill, on a beach, or even in a museum (definitely don’t run!)
  4. Get a race in if you see one.
  5. Don’t think “no school! Great chance to run every day.” Under 14s should not run more than 3 times a week… however much you want to.
  6. Get a mix in there do some other stuff. Hang out?
  7. Eat an ice-cream! Go on. You know you want to. And remember they aren’t free forever!

Autumn will be upon us in no time. That will be the start of the School Cross Country season. Everyone involved with Dark Peak Juniors needs a bit of down time before that. Its been a hard summer term with the close packed Champs. The higher the priority you put on your racing the more you need to take your foot off the gas now! Every single runner I see has had a great year and is running well – yes even you! Get that rest in. Improvement only comes from recovery.

Fell Championships will start again next spring.

First week back
