More information about juniors on our main page.
The yellow group needs to be accompanied by two adults for health and safety reasons. The first adult will be the group leader so we only need one support runner per week – but more would be fine!
If you’ve said on the google form that you might be available, you might be contacted and taken up on your offer. You’re not automatically committed. Think of yourself as Batman waiting for the bat signal (only the bat signal is a whatsapp and you don’t have to wear a rubber suit and a cape*).
The support runner doesn’t need to plan a route or “be in charge”, you just need to keep up with the group and enjoy the run. You’d need some outdoor experience, but only the amount you’d gain in getting fit enough to keep up with the group.
The run leader should have first aid kit, emergency shelter etc. but it would be great if you could bring those things as well, just in case. This is really belt and braces because all runners should have all the equipment mentioned in the required reading doc.
If there is an emergency, you will be called upon to be a responsible adult. This would just be the usual action you would expect if something untoward happens in the outdoors – keep everyone warm, navigate to safety, phone emergency contacts (or emergency services), – that sort of thing. The only time this was needed recently was when a young man with a twisted ankle needed to be walked back to the cars.
Usually, support runners will be familiar with the Sunday morning sessions. If it’s your first time, don’t feel any obligation.
If you’re not sure about anything, get in touch.
*anyone turning up in a batman suit and cape will earn much respect from me though. Although you should expect pretty much everyone else to be entirely confused.
