Leaders for this term
There are a lot of gaps in the program so leaders and helpers sign up as soon as you can for the empty volunteer spots, or get in touch if you are keen but have not helped out before.
All Change!
At the club AGM on 17th May, Lewis is stepping down as Junior Coordinator, having steered the ship (with sterling help from a raft of volunteers) since its formalisation in 2017.
Its time for a change in leadership. Some new ideas and better connections to a new generation of parents. Please make a special effort to support the new leader who gets elected.
Anybody who wishes to step forward, or make nominations should let Lewis (or another committee member) know as soon as possible.
Juniors are full voting members of the club. I strongly recommend that they allocate their voting rights as proxy votes if they wish to be involved. The club AGM is usually a fairly arcane affair!
Hopefully I have left the Juniors in a functioning and coherent state to enable the next Coordinator to take it forwards. Thank you to all of you who have made it possible. Lewis

Leader Training
We have funds for further leader training. The following courses are directly relevant, but other suitable training requests will be supported.
- England Athletic entry level run leader training – Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF). Please do give this some serious thought. Without new leaders coming through, this project will be unsustainable. We look to get at least two new leaders through each year. These courses take the form of a few hours self-paced web learning. A live web classroom & a self recorded leader session to complete the course. For those with limited understanding of training principles, it gives a good grounding. It talks about the group, training for the individual, types of training and methods of training. A very good introduction in a short period of time. The Club will support any leader who wishes to progress beyond the entry level.
- FRA LiRF extension – to support running off road, the FRA have an additional module the extend the leader’s understanding and experience. This is one day course, conducted in person.
- First Aid basic – as of this year, LiRF requires a first aid qualification. There is an EA online course that enables basic adherence to the training requirements.
- First Aid Outdoor – the requirement for using LiRF in a fell and hill setting is for a full outdoor first aid qualification. The club runs dedicated courses one or two times a year. Or for those who have limited availability, it is possible to arrange for funds for an independent course. The requirement for this is a recognised 16 hour outdoor first aid course.
- Additional training – the club is currently looking at options for further learning and training to support leaders in continuing to develop skills and experience beyond the formal qualifications above. We are currently trying to pin down a viable plan for an introduction to nutrition and associated problems.
Busses
The Senior club has embraced busses for key races. It would be good to do the same for the Junior English Championships (at the very least).
The logistics are a basic necessity:
- Requires both DBS checked Male & Female
- There will need to be rigour about lists & supervision at stops
- U11s will need to be accompanied
- O11s can travel unaccompanied
It is hoped there will be a flat fee – £15. For U11s the fee would cover both Adult & Child.
Packed lunches & games would be essential.
The longest journeys would be three & half hours each way. So quite a marathon!
I’d be keen to hear views on this. To do it would be great for the club and beneficial for the environment but it would require significant commitment from a number of organisers & up front commitment from participants.
Outstanding items
We’re still hoping for:
- Results – we’re still hoping for a stato volunteer. The title is more grand than the complexity of the task required – its about uploading results – may be with some commentary as seen fit by the incumbent Stato. This would be a very good role for a Junior with budding computer ambition, if they have a parent to help.
