Christmas term! From here on in its the run up to Christmas. A quiet spell in the fell running calendar. Mid November has the Senior Club Championships, as usual. So we get an extra week off for that as volunteers are thin on the ground that following day.
The weather should (fingers crossed we get a winter) be closing in from here on in. So please ensure that everyone attending has enough kit to stay warm. Anyone in shorts MUST also have full leg cover with them. Leaders reserve the right to decline to take individuals who do not have sufficient kit.
Because of the risk of bad weather and the complexities/uncertainties of rescheduling venues, through until March, the venues tend to be more sheltered & closer in to town. We try to limit the use of urban parks and save them for bad weather changes, but sometimes they are unavoidable in the search to provide a variety of locations.

Autumn Kick Off
It seems like a very long time ago now, but the Autumn Kick-off was a great event! Thank you all for supporting it. We had a number of new runners, who very much enjoyed it. We had a number of returning runners who we’ve not seen for a while. And we properly kicked off the Social Runs.
Adult Social Run
The Adult Social run is put on in conjunction with the senior club. It’s open to all members and parents of Juniors. It has been consistently well attended and well received since we started it off. It’s a good opportunity to get to know fellow travellers, with a steady run and chat. For the senior club, its a great chance to get a glimpse of the Junior sessions and get to know some of the slightly less wild locations that the club frequents. For those new to the club, its a fabulous way to ease in to the club.

Busses
The Senior club has embraced busses for key races. It would be good to do the same for the Junior English Championships (at the very least).
The logistics are a basic necessity:
- Requires both DBS checked Male & Female
- There will need to be rigour about lists & supervision at stops
- U11s will need to be accompanied
- O11s can travel unaccompanied
It is hoped there will be a flat fee – £15. For U11s the fee would cover both Adult & Child.
Packed lunches & games would be essential.
The longest journeys would be three & half hours each way. So quite a marathon!
I’d be keen to hear views on this. To do it would be great for the club and beneficial for the environment but it would require significant commitment from a number of organisers & up front commitment from participants.
Outstanding items
We’re still hoping for:
- Results – we’re still hoping for a stato volunteer. The title is more grand than the complexity of the task required – its about uploading results – may be with some commentary as seen fit by the incumbent Stato. This would be a very good role for a Junior with budding computer ambition, if they have a parent to help.
Leadership
We still have two Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) course places to fill this year. Please do give this some serious thought. Without new leaders coming through, this project will be unsustainable.
The entry level courses take the form of a few hours self paced web learning. A live web classroom & a self recorded leader session to complete the course.
For those with limited understanding of training principles, it gives a good grounding. It talks about the group, training for the individual, types of training and methods of training. A very good introduction in a short period of time.
The Club will support any leader who wishes to progress beyond the entry level.
First Aid
The Senior club recently ran a fully subscribed First Aid Course. There will be another one in the spring. Please consider signing up for this (free).
Next Run
First Run of the Christmas term is Redmires / Ocean View on 6th November.
