Odin Mine – Awesome Mam Tor

We had a chill wind but bright skies for today’s run. The last of the term.

The O11s group was made up entirely of girls (which is not uncommon). They had a great time, heading out towards Lords Seat & doing some fartleks in the rough ground & slip debris on the north side of the ridge, just beyond Mam Nick. A good run, broken up with a bit of structure.

Jess got her LiRF assessment video done.

The U11s group had a change from the usual diet of games and went for a mountain adventure! We did the Mam Tor Horseshoe. Up the main face on the western side & down on the very steep, wonderfully grassy eastern trod. Good effort was put in on the way up. Everyone was smiles for the trig photos & all the kids enjoyed the (carefully managed) wild descent.

This was quite a big adventure for the group. Its testament to their good hard work over the last few years that they achieved it with smiles and no distress. Good fitness, confidence and really good skills. I don’t think we would have faired any where near as well a year ago.

Skyline Spectating

Next Sunday (27th) we are not having a formal club run. It’s the same day as the Edale Skyline. That race needs all volunteers it can find. There are plenty of opportunities for spectating & cheering. Its 10:30 kick off from Edale & goes anticlockwise. There are road crossings at Mam Nick & Town Head (Hope). There are also plenty of places on the hill that make a good spectating spot: Lose Hill, Win Hill, Ringing Roger and many more.

Nothing is formalised but it’d be great to see kids on the hill supporting the senior racers. Get yr vest out there!

Next term

We are now starting to plan next term. We are aiming to run sessions through the bank holiday and the Championship weekends. To do that we are going to need volunteers to lead those sessions, and leader numbers are quite depleted at the moment.

Date U11 O11 Comments
24-Apr Black Combe Champs
01-May Bank Holiday
08-May Tom Saville Day after Todd Crag

Leaders & Coaches

First off, we need to wish Kris a quick recovery from his injury. We’re unlikely to see him again for a long while – and he has been an absolute star for leading sessions ever since we got started on this endeavour. Get well soon Kris!

We have a number of injuries amongst our dedicated coaches. This is going to put significant pressure on organising the sessions for the foreseeable future. Things are looking a bit shaky if we can’t get some more leaders trained and taking up the reins.

The training consists of an offline video session, a live video classroom & a self filmed assessment. The content is basic training purpose, session structure (warm up & warm down), and some group management. So please give this some thought. We really need it is make the Juniors Club work. The senior club are providing course fees for this training.

We are not searching for the next Olympic coach, but we are in need of people who want the share the joy of being in the hills with a new generation.
