Sunday’s run at Rails road Rivelin, again saw large numbers. Thanks to Kristian and Mark leading proceedings. Next Sunday is Longshaw Pole and the leaders are Jess & Kristian.

Whilst the high numbers are testament to the group meeting a need, they bring challenges. Its important that people sign up ahead of the day. Sign ups on a Saturday are now risking missing out. Sign ups need to be done through the forms to prevent Saturday evenings being consumed by group administration for organisers.

The other big challenge the high numbers bring is a great opportunity. To split the group further; to create a middle group. But in order to do that we need more volunteers to lead groups. The gold standard for group leadership is to have people trained up through the England Athletic Leader in Running Fitness & Coach in Running Fitness schemes. We’ve got funds earmarked to pay training fees; ask Lewis. This does take time though. Its also possible to arrange groups so that other volunteers can lead and help out groups. If you are able to spare some time for this, please do get in touch.

In other news, I was away in north Wales for the weekend, working on the upper end of the running introductory spectrum. On a Rucksack club (walking and mountaineering club) meet. The title of the meet was “youth fell and mountain running”. The purpose was to give opportunity for younger runners to gain experience in more mountainous settings than the peak district has to offer. The meet was a good success – unfortunately some of the experience gain could be measured on the Beaufort scale and in millimetres, but none the less we got two days out in the mountains of Snowdonia. Next year’s meet will be in the lake district at the end of November and is open to accompanied 16 & 17 year olds as well as adults.

Saturday’s cross country – snippets of news inform us that Rose stormed to victory in the Y7 race and Izzy-Mai won the Y8/9 race.
