9 starters, Winter Mondays

Keith (had he not already b***ered off) and your correspondent were delighted to have chalked up their best results, and bonuses, whilst Saville junior was in attendance.  Meanwhile, the elder Saville brothers and, more spectacularly still, Darren, were variously running around in circles amongst the spoil heaps above the cabins.  To be fair, the clag was thicker than a bag tonight, whilst Darren is pointing the finger at a faulty compass.  And, notwithstanding Tom’s grumblings about the lack of a definitive track at the top of Thornseat Road, the race description was pretty clear on this point: “... (this section particularly warrants a daylight recce) pick route north-west through broken ascending ground before dropping to gate through wall above shooting cabins”.  You had been fairly forewarned, Cap’n Saville.

All things considered, Harry - having turned up without his head torch - probably made the correct decision not to run; albeit Tom has consequently leap-frogged him in the league standings, which otherwise remain largely unchanged.

Next week, it’s the inaugural running of the Fox House Trail from the pub carpark.  The RO is very much hoping that the proximity to Dore, Grindleford and Hathersage might lure a few of the club’s more genteel members out to give the Mondays a try.  Come on folks - how can you possibly resist?
