Graham’s Birthday Race (Short)

There had been ominous mountain weather forecasts about Storm Darragh which was moving east across the country. However, at 09.00 at King’s Tree, the weather felt almost benign. Twelve brave souls set off at 09.00 to do the short version of the birthday run to Alport trig, another five would set off at 09.30 to do the original full-length race to North Grain cabin. On the way back, both races called in at the ruined sheepfold in the Westend valley.

First one back to King’s Tree was Roger. Well done, Roger. Tom Brunt took the long race in a remarkable time of 2 hours 10 minutes. As it turned out, the weather on top was pretty serious with

accounts of very strong winds mixed with sleet and hail and, of course, it was wet underfoot. So, challenging conditions for all. Well done to all the finishers including the youngest (U18), Louis, who ran with his Dad, Michael.
