Another big turn out in spite of the uninspiring weather - 310 starters and approximately the same number of finishers - within experiment error.

After the deluges of previous days the weather was dry at the start and the river had settled down and was crossable. Yet another variation in the start location saw us looping around the cricket pitch an arbitrary number of time before heading out onto the course. The going seemed a little softer then usual over the field and down Padley and the river crossing saw a number of smaller runners become temporarily submerged.

Among the notable incidents of the day were the runners in 3rd and 4th trying to cross the river 300m short of the official crossing, realising their error and recrossing - the marshal in yellow and red tape clearly made no impact.

On checking through the entry forms while doing the results I noticed a certain member of DP whose emergency contact details read "wife - watching race". Not sure quite what "wife-watching" is Andrew - but we don't do that sort of thing in Grindleford :)

Many thanks to Joy Benn and her team of organisers. It will be her last year organising the event in 2013 after which the race will be disorganised by a couple of dodgy blokes called Mike and Andy.
