Junior Coordinator
I (Lewis) was confirmed as Junior coordinator for the next year. As I said at the beginning of this year, having now been in role for five years, I will be stepping down at the 2023 AGM. Anybody who would like to take on the role can let me know and I’ll happily show you the ropes.

Young Person’s Development officer
The senior club introduced a new role of Young Person’s Development officer to support the interests of younger club members – generally (but not exclusively) seen as being under 30.
Matt Pickering was co-opted into this role.
Hopefully he will be able to build on so much good work that has been done in the last few years to create support and development pathways for younger senior runners. Recognition of the hard work done by Megan Wilson is warranted here. This work is essential to the meaningful development of the Juniors, as it provides continuity between the U18 experience and the O18 experience.
We can help Matt to a degree, by passing on information on youth matters, particularly in the 15 – 23 age bracket, where events are a blend of junior & senior runners at events.
Chairman’s Report
Tim Tett thanked all those who have been involved in making the Juniors a success. It was felt by the meeting that is was a good thing and the club wishes to continue to support the section.
Treasurer’s Report
It was noted that the club has a significant surplus of funds. There is a survey to solicit proposals for spending.
We are more than happy to assist in spending these, but some organisational support is required to do that. It would be good to put mini buses on for championship races, but that requires some organisation.
The summer camping weekend (19th/20th/21st Aug) is likely to be subsidised. It should be a great weekend, so get along there if you can!
Leader training
The area where club funds are really important is ongoing leader training, through UK athletic’s LiRF course and the FRA’s follow-on module for leadership on the fells.
We are able to pay fees for two LiRF & two FRA modules in the coming year. So please give some thought to taking up these courses. If we do not continue to train new people, the Juniors will not be able to function for the long term. So please give so real thought to what you expect your kids to be doing for the next year. If you think they’ll be here & you’ll be bringing them, please consider one of these courses.
Leader Allowance
In order to ensure that no leaders are out of pocket, the club has agreed to pay an allowance of £10 per session to each leader. This goes hand in hand with the following…
Young Leaders
We recognise that the club can’t currently offer a hugely rewarding experience for older juniors right now. It is something that we constantly seek to improve upon.
One of the areas that we are keen to address is youth leadership development. We would like younger runners to be involved with helping out both groups on a weekly basis. This is available to any member 15 or over. participants can claim the Leader Allowance.
The objectives are to have young leaders helping with group management, directing activities, and (as skills develop) involved in planning. All of these are valuable life skills. They would be particularly of benefit to any young runner who is looking towards education and career options in sport and outdoor education. They are also good for young athletes who want the know more about training and development.
Please get in touch with Lewis if you want to be involved in this initiative.
Next Run
Sunday 3rd, Juniors are at Dennis Knoll / High Neb. Leaders are Jess & Gilly Spiers.
