Back at Sir William Hill. Its a great running spot and without the masses on busy summer weekends, but it is one of the coldest places in the Peak! It was a chilly start today. Bright, cloudy and blowy.
Graham and Jenny led the O11s – Jenny was only a little concerned about the obligation, being broken after her win at the very tough Great Lakes race. Thank you both! They went in search of the stone circle, then headed down into the valley and returned via the trig.

The U11s was another small group. Given the numbers, everyone’s current good form and the blowy weather, we eschewed the usual short loop with the boulders, in favour of a tour of the open moor, all the way down to the gate. On the way back up the hill, we put in some great intervals, had a break with some hide n seek. Then charged up to the trig in hot pursuit of the O11s.

Who was Sir William?

Bob Graham weekend
Usually a fairly large chunk of the club decamps to the lakes for the weekend to support five or so runners round the Bob Graham in under 24 hours. Something slightly over 100km & 10,000m of climbing. This club outing has been described in a number of books about fell running. ‘The Dark Peak Machine’ is legend! This year there are only two contenders / aspirants and the supporting cast looks smaller than usual. Hopefully, it will provide a useful reboot of The Machine after a couple of years missed due to covid. The undertaking, or its support are most definitely not something for young runners, but the endeavour is to be celebrated & its a great camping weekend in the lakes.
Wild Camp
It’s looking like the wild camp will not happen this year as we have no one prepared to organise it.
All kids have to be accompanied by parents. So the organiser role is essentially to plan a starting point (pub tea) and a location.
Junior Championships
The last race in the 2022 English Junior Championships is on 3rd July at Sedbergh in the Howgills, hosted by the Helm Hill club.
The current Challenge & Championship standings are on the Fell Junior website: http://www.felljunior.org.uk/
Good luck to everyone taking part.
Next week – No run! Dennis Knoll 3rd July.
Next week (26th June) is the club BG.
Dennis Knoll
We currently only have one leader for Dennis Knoll on 3rd July.
