Back in action at Redmires after a fairly long break for Easter. Small to medium sized groups for both U & O11 – but limited numbers was inevitable with racing happening elsewhere.
It was great to see Kris up and about today! We are hoping for his return in the late autumn, when we get back into the parks.
The O11s group went out to Stanage pole & beyond. They put some intervals in out there on the edge somewhere. Everyone seemed very happy at the return.
The U11s had a tough session. They are getting fast, fit and determined. The session was split half and half between games and running adventures roaming widely over the trenches & workings. Lots of speedy sprints, lots of great terrain work, up and down the banks.
Thanks very much to Graham & Julie for taking the O11s group.

Timing
It’s worth remembering that the 9:30 start time is the start of the running, rather than the arrival time. We do look to leave the carpark at 9:30! Whilst it’s sometimes possible to predict where the U11s group will be, as the O11s roam far and wide, its unlikely that they can be found / caught up with. So please do make sure you are ready to run at 9:30. Its also worth remembering to sign up beforehand, so that we know you are coming.
Championships
Black Combe this weekend – news when it appears, most likely via a combination of Facebook (Dark Peak Juniors), Whatsapp, Twitter (DpfrJ) and possibly even Instagram (/@darkpeak_juniors)
Orienteering
Many of the Dark Peak Juniors also Orienteer. Latest(ish) news from this camp is that Beau E won the U10 girls competition at the British Orienteering Championships in Leighton Buzzard on 6th March.

Volunteers for the future
As ever, I’m keen to hear from people who’d be able to get involved in leading session in the future. It may be that you feel you’d like to, but don’t know where to start. there are plenty of us who can help you out there.

Things coming up
As ever, we’re keen to hear from people with ideas for future events. It would be great to have a social before the summer.
Wild camp
Most previous years we’ve had a wild camp. The format so far has been to meet up at a convenient pub for dinner. Then reassemble at parking to head out onto the hill to the appointed location. To keep it simple, we usually eschew stoves & just take a bottle of water & a breakfast sandwich. Parents need to accompany kids. The purpose of the organiser is to set the date, determine a location and set out the rendezvous plans. There is not really much more to it than that! the choice of weekend is up to the organiser, typically we aim for one of the last weekends before the end of the summer term. A Saturday night ahead of a Sunday run (in the same vicinity) is usual. Although I do have suggestion for a venue that would work much better for a Friday night
We are looking for a volunteer organiser for this.
Next week
Cutthroat Bridge. Leaders are Michael & Jess.
