After last week’s snowy and icy cancellation, we were back out there this week. The venue was Whitely Woods / Common Lane Open Ground. It can be pretty wet and muddy there. Its a classic wet cyclocross venue! Some of our runners have got form there too; mud tobogganing caused a fairly serious amount of car cleaning, and a freezing cafe visit last year.
We were in the presence of greats this week. Amongst the adults, we had a former Endeavour Trophy holder, playing games with the young group – Ralph’s dad, Jon. We had the current Pertext holder supporting the older group – Michael (for very understandable navigation errors in the Championships) and a brief visit at the end from the current Endeavour holder Helen. what we don’t have are any awards or trophies for the Juniors. This is something we need to give some thought to.
Dejan & Jack were out today. Probably the most consistent longstanding participants. They’ve both been stalwarts since they turned 6. Equally, Tilen couldn’t make it today, but he’s also been a very consistent attendee for the last three years, or more.
Looking a week and a half ahead, its carols at the Headstone on Wednesday 15th. Juniors would be more than welcome to join in the festive frivolity. The normal short cut is to park at Redmires and head down The Conduit path. Its round about 2km to the Headstone. It can be cold and wet, but lots of fun and appalling singing.
Next week is the last Sunday run of the year at Wadsley Common. Leaders are Lewis & Mark/Alenka.
