Nov 28th run
We had to cancel the run on 28th November. This was done with heavy hearts, but the combination of wet snow on Saturday and the potential for sheet ice on Sunday morning added up to neither set of conditions being conducive to good safe running. It was felt that the cold wet snow would make it impossible to have a good session for the younger group and manage to keep them warm – some of these winter sessions can be pretty tough to get enough activity to stay warm and enough rest to not make the session too hard. Whilst its easier to keep the older kids warm (because physiologically they are not so dependant upon stop start activity) it would be difficult to refactor the group supervision at short notice, to ensure that the leader for the older group has the necessary support and fall back options. I hope everyone managed to get out an have adventures anyway. It’s important to note that the Club Website is the system of record. So if in doubt, check there for last minute changes – they should always be in the news section. Next week is Whitely Woods / Common Lane open ground.
Club Championships U23 trophies
When we set up the junior section, it was very clear that for there to be any point to it, there needed to be continuity from teenage years through in to the senior ranks. One of the only club events that has trophies is the Club Championships. So it made sense to ensure there is recognition for runners moving up to this larger stag. We added U23 trophies for women & men. The trophies, Royal Dalton figurines created for the London Olympics were generously donated by Kev Saville and Sharon James. They both have a longstanding history of supporting young runners, given both their kids (Tom and Hannah) were born into the the club and were both part of the furniture by the time they got to their GCSEs. Tom and Hannah’s achievements warrant a post in their own right! The Kev Saville & Sharon James trophies are awarded for the winning U23 runners in the Club Championships, or where no qualifying runners start, to the youngest runner in the field.
