So that’s it for another year, a really strong club effort throughout a long season. Congratulations to anybody who’s got a medal, but especially to everyone who has been involved. Not sure of this, but are Steve Storey and myself the ones who have competed in every event?

Ian Hodgson Relay:-Full Results and Splits. showing fastest Legs for the Ladies on 3 and 4, but Leg 1 only seconds away. For the Vets, fastest Legs on 1, 2 and 4, with 2nd on Leg 3 – superb!
Lots of photos.

I see that Dave is looking for John, just as at the start of the leg…..(thanks to Andy Howie for these.)
Chased in by a pleased Leg 2 runner….
As ever, a very well organised, successful event. Many deserved congratulations to our teams, is this the first ever win for the Ladies and for the vets? The reverse direction made for good spectator viewing, especially at Kirkstone Pass, with many different lines being taken off Red Screes. Some mist on the tops, but not causing many problems. Nobody seems to have been upset by the guest runner on Leg 4 for Totley…. Mentions of the race being held on a Saturday next year……

Long Mynd Hike Matt sends:- “It wasn’t a particularly good day at the office on Saturday, the only bit I enjoyed was the night running at the end. Pace from the start was a tad quick. Andy Davies a Church Stretton local and Martin Beale made their intentions clear, Andy wanted the win and Martin needed to put time into Allen Smalls in order to win the series. I was just off the back of them with Jez Bragg after the first two climbs, sweating buckets with the muggy conditions. I knew early on I didn’t have the legs or mind for the battle up front, so resigned myself to going at my own pace and trying to keep the leaders in sight. It didn’t help that I didn’t know the course and I unashamedly admit I was trying to use them to aid me round as long as possible. This I managed till about 15 miles until I lost touch in some woods. After that I just kept losing time here and there working out the route and probably not getting the best lines in some cases. Grouping for me was at 7:30pm about 12 miles from the end, fortunately one of the lads in my group was local and he did a great job of guiding us in the last couple of hours in the dark and we managed to gain a bit of time back on the group in front. I finished in around 8:55. I think Steve Watts my challenge for third spot was about 30 mins down on the leaders final time, which we (well according to my mate Paul) don’t believe was enough for him to leap frog me. Until they post the race results we won’t know what the final scores are. But it looks like the finishing order in the series remains the same on the individual and team front. Official results are due November 1st.”

Grin and Bear It. Results are on the DP results link – if you’ve been missed off, please let me know….News from Ian:- “Thanks to all who entered up, I believe a record turnout was talked about. Results should appear on the website either Monday or Tuesday .Although I was a bit disappointed not to be able to run the race myself I had a great day being up early to marshal with others the early walkers though the top of Cutgate with a warning that the bog monster was hungry, it didn’t take long as the 3rd ‘walker’ ran straight in to a bog to his waist and needed pulling out by a fellow competitor. More followed including a young lad walking with his dad who went arm pit deep, his dad was heard to comment in true dad fashion “Next time you’ll look where you are going”!!
Due to the number of people that needed help getting away from the Bogmonster who were taking there time to cross the bogs safely. It was decided by the time the runners had started to deflect them away from the worst of it so I was ‘volunteered’ to ‘redirect the traffic’ across the top of Bull Clough, so apologies if you carried that snorkel or flippers. Gavin who was in third at the time seemed a bit put out that he couldn’t wade though the deepest point! Russell was also up in the top ten as he passed me. I managed to run round after the runners had passed with Paul from Penistone but not before searching out he Oxford plane wreck
just before OET.
It sounds like every one had a good time and enjoyed the the copious amounts of food at the end and we raised a healthy amount of money. Just a footnote though, we are trying to raise £12,000 for a specially built off road ambulance/rescue vehicle. If you can help please get in contact. Thanks again to every one and see you next year.”

Tintwhistle : Mick Stenton was the only Dark Peak there, but a very packed weekend. Won by Andi Jones, with Mick 3rd, though first home was this runner who went the short way, and still given 2nd place. A good, recommended race, making its way onto Hollingworth Moor.

Smarna Gorva – No news yet of Rob’s England race…
