A note on race categories here
Export resultSummer is always a busy time but we had a good turnout despite missing some familiar faces. It was thankfully pretty cloudy but hot and humid making it an incredibly sweaty run!
Prolonged dry weather meant the ground was hard and fast, which should have set runners up nicely to challenge last years course records.
Oli Johnson challenged the lead from the start keeping me in his sights for the majority of the route. I challenged my maximum heart rate on the final climb up Crookstone Knoll but alas missed the course record by about 30 seconds! Tom Perry was running in a comfortable third place before deciding he had run one too many races this week, cutting back down Alport valley.
Congratulations to Laura Robertson for setting a new female course record and also beating the overall course record holder, Jonny Crickmore, on the day.
All in all everyone seemed to have a good time and we debriefed outside the Anglers Rest at the Bamford Beer Festival.
It was great to see Jonny running again on his return from injury.
The route (and trig) are building a 'Dark Peak Classic' status, however I may rest this route next summer and run the classic knoll-trig-knoll crashout.
Hopefully see you for the winter edition that will remain a esoteric Kinder outing.
