Winter Olympics Fell Race on Sat 14th Feb 2026

13 starters, Dark Peak 50th Anniversary League

Thirteen hardy Olympians were rewarded with the first blue skies of the year for the 2026 running of the Winter Olympic fell race. A light dusting lay in the frozen valley, while on the tops there was enough snow to make carrying a toboggan for the descents off Bob’s Rock and Madwoman’s Stones seem like a prudent kit choice. The connoisseur’s line from Dunge Clough to Bob’s Rock proved tough underfoot, making the longer route round the top a surprisingly sensible option.
Unsurprisingly, times were down on 2023. Men’s Olympic champion Tom, as the lone 10am starter, romped home 10 minutes outside Tom Brunt’s winter record. In the women’s race, Des held off a high-quality field to become Olympic champion with a new women’s winter record of 1:33:40.
Back to the clockwise summer route for the 2028 edition of Andy Harmer’s brilliant short fell race. This will be held earlier in the Olympic year, prior to the bracken growth and to allow athletes to race in both competitions.
