Mid-Madwoman’s Hot Stones – 8 July 2026
No, the heat hadn’t sent us into delirium but we had the age-old problem of confirming we’d actually arrived at Madwoman’s Stones. Fortunately, it was clear (and hot) so we could see other stones to Read more
The 2025 Bradfield Boundary saw a extremely select group of just 4 starters. This may be due to it falling very close to Christmas this year or the early Influenza peak resulting in many not feeling up for 12hrs on the moors.
It was nearly only 3 starters. Ben Kelsey decided to fully commit to the early start and run to Loxley from his home in Crookes. He departed at 05:30 only to text us 20 minutes later to say he will be late as he is currently lost in a Stannington suburb.
Holly Clifford, Ben Kelsey, Stuart Walker, and myself left Loxley Junior School a tad behind schedule at 06:08.
At a consistently steady pace we gradually gained on schedule throughout the day, only stopping for significant breaks at Langsett and Fairholmes where Hannah Saville supplied hot drinks and Kevin Saville offered moral support (Thanks both!). The weather was dry with high clouds and strong winds but with there being only a small group of us there seemed a lot less faff which I think helped keep a good pace. This good pace was briefly disturbed by the appearance of some familiar faces (Despina Berdeni, James Halse and Tom Moss) with fresh legs on Strines Edge. Most peeled off in Rivelin valley, including Ben who took the direct line home but still ended up running the furthest (maybe due to his explore of Stannington).
This left Holly, Stu and myself to return to Loxley Junior School in a time of 10 hours 35 minutes.
Thank you to all involved.
