Unusually benign conditions greeted the 31 starters for this classic winter outing (much to the relief of the new race organiser). So for once there was no snow or gale-force winds to contend with, and the two crossings of Abbey Brook were straightforward. At the sharp end of the race Tom Saville and Fin Grant stormed round with Tom coming home first in a remarkable 1:40:55, which is believed to have knocked a sizeable chunk off the race record. The women’s race was won jointly by Lisa Watson and Despina Berdeni, and there were notable age group performances from Messrs. Johnson, Bradbury, Addison and Berry.

See you all again next year, although I very much doubt that the weather will be so amenable.
