Upper Derwent Stones

Upper Derwent Stones on Sat 6th Nov 2021

This was the second running of the Upper Derwent Stones following its creation as a Time Trial in 2020. The turnout was lighter than expected which was a shame as the race got a positive reception from DPFR race regulars Mr B and Mr S. The low number may have been driven by confusion over the status of the road to Kings Tree (open on Saturday between Halloween and Easter) with two competitors arriving at the start on their bikes. The race itself is a mix of some of the peaks best technical trods and some less pleasant deep heather bashing. With the clag down navigation could have proved challenging but the clag hung just above us and the wanders were minimal. The race will return on the equivalent first weekend after Halloween next Autumn with hopefully a better turn out!
