The superb dry conditions should have resulted in lots of PBs ... that was how last year’s report started. This year was the foulest weather since the race began – driving rain and wind the entire race and clag on the first crossing. Whilst that seemed to have deterred most of the usual people from running there were a few hardy, or should that be fooldhardy, folk who decided a battle with the elements was a good thing to start the weekend with.

Apart from the first three home, times were slow! Last year “everyone was back within 2 hours” – not so this year with Moz bring up the rear in around 2.22. The weather was so bad even the midges didn’t come out. Post race tea/coffee beside the wood burning stove in the Snake Inn brought a chance to stop the shivering and listen to stories of large trees falling down in front of people in the wood out of Alport, eyes blinded by driving rain, dodgy river crossings and Dave Allen’s Pertex bid with his full 180degree turn on the first crossing to being him back to the Start rather than Alport valley!
