JOHN EDWARDS – A short remembrance
It was with great sadness that I heard of John’s death in March. He was a distinguished “character” in the Dark Peak Fell Runners as evident by the soubriquets he was given, Gentleman John, Squire Read more
A very breezy but not too cold Midhope greeted the ten runners for this year’s Three Tops classic. Much debate was in evidence at the start as to which was the quickest way round, with so many options available to the head scratchers. Only Richard deciding on a clockwise round thus guaranteeing himself a prize.
A high quality field set off on the fast start and Tom soon left every one behind. The RO contrived to baffle every one by stupidly leaving his car keys on the bonnet of his car so he returned and restarted the race allowing him to weasel a crafty route up to catch the main group by Outer Edge. Various routes were taken From Margery Hill To Pike Low but all arrived together to find Russ and son Miles supporting. Dave Lund tried valiantly to slow himself down by repeatedly throwing himself at the ground, Capt Harmer also having a chest deep visit in to a bog .
Every one finished in the chasing group within a few seconds of each other. Tom managed to beat Neil's course record by a minute, and a few others got PB’s.
Hot Juice was readily consumed at the finish and prizes of Beer, Chutney, Jam and Preserves were handed out.
