With a certain local electrician gone AWOL in Birmingham, it was a noticeably reduced field that splashed out across possibly the wettest (underfoot) running of the Revenge in living memory.  Indeed, it was suggested by at least one competitor that the best line across White Path Moss to the Pole may have involved swimming up the drainage dike itself.

21 hardy souls set out (myself not included); sadly only 20 finished after Austin lost his argument with a boulder in Burbage Brook.  Sadder still were the shocking reports of other did not starters – a certain women’s team captain finding some dubious last minute excuse not to make the journey up the hill from Hathersage whilst, worse still, the sometimes Green Party candidate for Netheredge pitched up at the start in his oversized red van, only to declare the consumption of breakfast in Hathersage a more appealing prospect. Nothing more was to be seen of young Rob thereafter.  It was, by contrast, most welcome to see Ken Jones out for a brisk stroll at Burbage Bridge, looking fit and healthy.

We repaired to the Norfolk Arms for Belgian Blue and the return of feeling to our frozen extremities.  Electrical prizes, as are customary, were dispensed to those who could be bothered to turn up; I shall be claiming expenses from the absentee RO in due course.
