Stretton Skyline on Sun 9th Sep 2012

100 starters

Hot work and a whole lot of running - "the kind of race that must do you some good", opined Dr Sykes, as we three brooded over our shandies at the end (I won't fess up to which two of the three of us were on lager shandy - suffice to say it wasn't me).  Some very fine views and a great way to get a taste of an unexpectedly hilly (and attractive) part of Shropshire, although the top end of the skyline is decidedly flat and agricultural, with more stiles to negotiated than the back way up to Lose Hill.  I took Dave's advice and ran the first half slow - had no choice, in fact, feeling shocking up the first long hot climb - then caught sight of young Mr Rimmer climbing The Lawley two thirds of the way around.  Got all over-excited, passed him on the final big climb, then lost out decisively on the descent.  Well worth the trip over, a 'goody bag' of commestibles at the end, and a generously long prize list (albeit not long enough for the Dark Peak on this occasion).  And next time go over, Dave should have fixed his wheel-bearing.  My ears are still ringing.
