A small but high quality field assembled for the re-birth of the race. Terrain varied from perfect soft grass, perfect soft snow to treacherous ice in places. Several interesting route variations resulted from the remains of the snow obscuring some obvious trods round the course, which I'd like to blame for my dreadful line off Houndkirk Hill and I assume Syko's dreadful line over Burbage and his choice of getting to the Pole via Friars Ridge. Honours for walkabout of the day must go to (mad?) Prof Beerling who opted to reach Rud Hill from Stanage Pole via Redmires Reservoirs. The ominous whiff of pipe smoke as I closed in on the finish gave me concern that the chasing pack may have to contend with carrying coconuts from Rud Hill, but thankfully Mr Yates seemed more content in seranading me in than impeding the rest of the field. A good post race beer sampling ensued in the Norfolk, but despite continuous recommendations, no one fancied joining Royston in the 'Dirty Tackle' guest Ale.
