Black Mountains

The weather threatened to be warm beforehand but fortunately a modicum of cloud rolled in to make for near perfect running  conditions.  Three quarters of this race is taken up with running the exposed sandstone scarps & ridges and fine lines down grassy descents.  The remaining quarter is taken up with complex flagged descents  through coniferous woods &, finally, agricultural fields to the finish.  The complexity did for Jon Morgan who, maintaining his fine current form, managed to scoot under the final checkpoint in front but without being clocked in by the marshals – all in all a bit harsh & arguably not very satisfactory.  That left first Ben & then myself to fly the tricolours.
 
As for me I am long schooled in staring at results long enough until I get some semblance of a result.  On  this occasion I am alone in the results – neither in the top half nor the bottom half of the results, standing  astride the 50% mark.  Nonsensical comforts cheer me on.
