The Yorkshire Whisky Race on Sun 31st Jul 2011

15 starters

The eve of Yorkshire Day turned out pretty warm for the Yorkshire Whisky race, a group of locals from Loxley cheated by setting off early to try and miss the heat of the day and with local knowledge all posted pretty impressive times split by a fantastic run later by non local Dave Sykes.Great to see everyone at the finish totally exhausted. Unfortunately this race will not count for the Loxley Rough Running Series as it is not in the Loxley Valley. If this race becomes a regular I will run it in the winter when the bracken wont be a problem although I tried to do this twice before but had to cancel due to very heavy snow, third time lucky this coming February

A tough course indeed, which would still be tough in winter with the bracken down. My problem was not a lack of local knowledge, although true, but an inability to decide on a plan and stick to it (Cut Gate to Rocking Stones), and an inability to run at a suitable speed (start to finish). I was struggling to raise a jog downhill on the Dukes Road at the end!
