Shining Tor

It was a muggy evening in the Goyt Valley and so the midges were out in force. There was more warming up at the start than has ever been seen before, because you had to keep moving the get away from the bugs! The initial climb up the valley was hot and sweaty and plagued by more bugs, but once on the summit of Shining Tor, the gentle breeze gave some relief. This fast rolling course gave some good tussles up and down the field, with enough changes of terrain to test people's varied strengths. Your correspondent pushed Jim hard in the closing miles, but failed to overhaul him. Or was it: Jim dragged your corespondent along hard with the sniff of a minor personal victory? At the pointy end of the field, there was a good haul of prizes for overall, category and the mens team. The rain on the finishing line was most welcome to wash off the crust of midges built up through the race!
