New Year's Day on Sat 1st Jan 2011

19 starters
A grey and misty start to the new year saw around twenty cheery runners set of on this "new" race around Abney. We were graced (if that's the word) with some of the world's finest orienteers - alongside some of the worst - as well as all the usual suspects.  The ground had softened a little although icy patches remained. The route headed down to stoke ford and pulled up the other side at which point the 3 main contenders eased away from the chasing pack. Most runners (and even some of the orienteers) coped with the intricacies of Bretton clough and those that didn't seemed to have fun anyway! The whiskey stop at the top of sir william had attracted two spectators by the time I arrived (Rachel and Alan) - I have to report that Mr Yates was observed sampling the single malt long before any runners arrived!

Well done to all who finished especially the Boundary Run survivors who seemed to drink more soup than anyone else!
