Tour of Pendle on Sat 3rd Oct 1987

Six good steep climbs, and six equally good descents, interspersed with some fast running, a bit of route choice and some tricky navigation when the mist is down- Add to this a traditional fell race atmosphere, efficient but unobtrusive organisation, and some tasty grub afterwards. Conveniently placed on the fell running calendar five weeks before the club championships, and only a pleasant ninety minutes drive from Sheffield.
I always find this race a joy to run in, and yet Dark Peak has only been sparsely represented the times that I have run. To those of you who have not run this race, you don't know what you are missing!
So what happened this year? Mist on the summit at the top of the first climb- The leading group getting lost in it! A classic tussle with Andy Harmer, with the lead changing hands five times- A free Mars Bar from the official at the penultimate checkpoint- Andy talking the race organiser into giving me a £3 voucher rather than a £6 voucher at the prize giving.
See you at Barley next year!
