Bolton by Bowland on Sun 1st Dec 1991

241 startersGoing up this way always gives me a chance to see Mum and Dad and drop the kids off for the afternoon. The terrain looked reasonably promising, a course to the West would have taken us into the Hills of Bowland. However this was not to be. A course change this year, it appears that there was a bottle-neck over an early bridge last year, so this year we went through the river instead. A much better idea. The first part does go West starting with a steady ascent followed by a nice fast downhill through sheep pastures. From then on things got boring. Soggy fields and muddy 'Green Lanes' that were very hard work for little reward. Despite the disappointing course, a nice atmosphere in a nice Pennine Country village, well organised despite the large entry. But the biggest disappointment was when they ran out of Lancashire Hot Pot, it's not the same when you've moved South.
