17 startersThe classic course in the Rivelin Valley (starting at 'the tree') was resurrected as an appropriate event with which to say 'pharewell to phil winskill and phamily', moving up to Penrith the following morning. This was a happy occasion, with a good turn-out for the height of the holiday season. The Cobden View pub was a most congenial headquarters, and the debriefing was accompanied by fine ales and a delicious chilli + chips. Thanks to Laura and her staff and also to Ron Hayman, butcher extraordinaire and friend of the people, for generously providing a magnificent garland of Cumberland sausages for the winner.

Helen 'one-lap' (24.20) Winskill sacrificed personal triumph to the cause of immaculate time-keeping.
