Dave Holmes came up with the appropriately named Peaty Dykes race based on the reasoning that the run would be from the Sportsman to various dykes, some of which might be peaty. Chris Barber devised the course which may not have visited many dykes, but the ochre water by Redmires middle dam was certainly very peaty!
Performances of note from Neil who won in half the time of the last man Mel Cramner who had no idea where he had been, but said he had enjoyed it. Mike Browell who passed Dave and me by taking the right route as we crashed through daffodil valley like warthogs. Jonty Straker looked like he had slashed his wrists when he finished* and Middlditch & Stenton who missed CP1 but said they had been quite near it (the cheating gypsies*). Thanks to Les Outwin for timekeeping and results annotation*.
There were as many non runners as runners back at the Sportsman for pints, chip butties and birthday cake. Chris had a hipflask engraved which was given to Pete from everyone at circuits. It was a great evening, thanks to all who turned up – Happy Birthday Pete

Peaty Dykes on Thu 8th May 2008
A select few of us go to the Sportsman on a Monday evening for circuit training. I found out that one of our members, Pete Dyke, was reaching a significant birthday, so thought it would be a good idea to have a run on the nearest Monday to his birthday. I told Jill at the pub, then realised it was May Day and we would be away, changed it to Wednesday, then realised that was the AGM so changed it to the Thursday and that’s about where my valued input finished!Dave Holmes came up with the appropriately named Peaty Dykes race based on the reasoning that the run would be from the Sportsman to various dykes, some of which might be peaty.
