Putting the controls out at 8 in the morning in a white-out rather set the tone for the day. Roy Small and I sat in the car at 10.30 in a blizzard and wondered whether anyone would be soft enough to come out in this weather, present company excepted. Soon after, however, a small crowd began to assemble confirming that the indomitable British spirit still exists in the nether regions of the Dark Peak. Some however, seemed particularly bemused by the concept of a score event, Andy Moore reacted particularly viciously when presented with, of all things, a map, and threw it back into the registration car muttering threateningly. Roger Baumeister and one or two of the other more senior members had to resort to substitute card punchers in the absence of their glasses, Jim Fulton assumed the very useful role of "guide person" for the aforementioned for whom the map was a green and yellow blur and the punch cards totally invisible, perhaps the use of braille maps should be considered for future events?
Anyway, having assumed that it was just about impossible to obtain the maximum points, Dave Peel promptly proved me wrong, congratulations to him. Dave Holmes also had an excellent run, as did Rob Davison who would have scored 190 points had he looked to one side to find the punch on Carl Wark. An excellent effort by all concerned in difficult, snowy conditions. Thanks should also go to Marilyn and Roy Small for the excellent spread that they put on after the race, greatly appreciated, thank you.
