Having read the impending weather report on CAR Share I was very close to crying off – like several Dark Peaker’s appeared to do. When we got to Marsden at 8.00a.m. I first surprise was that it was only raining lightly and the wind had dropped from the night-time blasts – although still very strong! The good news was that the worst toilets in the worlds – discounting any you wish to choose in NEPAL, had been renovated, new paint etc! The downside – THEY WERE LOCKED! After we got over that disaster and the fact that a certain local resident called the police because people were urinating in the bushes – fortunately this mainly took place after we left!

Well we set of at 9.00a.m. fighting a strong wind which was to be against us ALL THE WAY, and battling the light rain. To be fair the weather stayed O.K. we seemed to get the clear window between the two fronts – I was even bathed in sunshine for about 2 minutes when ascending Bleaklow. The good news was that visibility was good. I made the mistake of cutting right over Bleaklow to pick-up the Shelf Moor edge – the wind was extremely strong blowing me sideways and lifting me of the ground on several occasions _ Dave Taylor went the same way, but well before me, ALL I can imagine is that he out some bricks in his pockets?

The wind was even against us down 'Snake' and upon emerging at the end of the 5 min crossing instead of speeding down the hill, the wind was so strong you could hardly move. Despite all this it was better than the forecast and we did not have horizontal hail like at the Tour of Pendle.

Another plus was Dark Peaks performance – we swept the Board! Special mention for Dave Taylor who won and it was his first Tanky’s and Matt Hulley who came home in 4th position – to think I was beating him at he start of the season! Special mention to Richard Hopkinson who presented the new ladies trophy in recognition of Dawn and I have to say it is a trophy that anyone would love to receive!
