Seeing the new names on the 2004 entry list makes me think I should explain a little about the race. Conceived and organised by DPFR Stalwart Colin Hughes, the 'wart's Revenge has been run for many years on Hallam Moors. When Colin left Sheffield for Manchester, organisation & sponsorship of this classic Bog Trot was taken over by sponsor www.jfulton.com (Sheffield's premier Electrical Contractor). Some time after leaving Sheffield, Colin sustained a serious car accident after which the race was renamed as The Colin Hughes Memorial 'wart's Revenge.
In 2004 there were old and new competitors, notable "oldie" being Ged Desforges recognised by just four of us, still turning in a good performance ending in 8th place. I have no idea how competition in the race unfolded, there were too many tasks for the organiser to perform (Registration / kit check / controls / computerised results / taped course / Mountain Rescue / &c.) but it was a pleasure to see most in the Norfolk arms afterwards for Prize-giving. The results accompany but; Tim A won the 100 Watt light Bulb, Tim T the 60 Watt light Bulb, Dave the set of Screwdrivers (Part P), Mr. Andrew Moore (old pro) red light, David Hakes Sponsor's Plug, Hilary (1st lady), amusingly shaped lightbulb (needs seeing to be believed), and finally Mike Hayes, 1st SV in a brilliant time winning the Long Life lamp ' well done Mike, a successful BG next year eh'
