Wharfedale Half Marathon on Sat 3rd Jun 2006

111 startersA perfect setting for a perfect race. 13 miles of White Peak type terrain with a touch of peat bog at the end, just to show we had been off-road. Mick's race tactic mirrorred mine - follow the Skipton bloke in front, but he lost sight of his 'guide' at a crucial turn toward the end, which cost him not only a chance of first place but second as well. At least he missed out the peat bog, but did have to consult his 'foldy thing' - something thankfully I didn't have to resort to, as my 'guide' went for a fast finish and lost out on the road. Matt's navigational skills on foot were far better than they we're behind the wheel, as we were given the dubious pleasure of a tour of every cricket pitch he'd played at as a youngster. Roger continues to haunt me in the Dales as he gets quicker with every race, and beat me comprehensively in the time it took to remove vests.
Matt and Roger could not contain their mirth at mine & Mick's prizes of some very Chav garish nylon hoodies - at least we won't be allowed in Meadowhell if we wear them.
As we consumed our steak pie, sticky toffee pudding (with cream) & beer whilst sat outside on the Rugby pitch, it was hard to see how a race day could get much better. (A.Moore)
