The Junior FRA Championship race at Rossendale was unfortunately a very wet and muddy event, and really pretty cold for a June fixture. It was well-organised though and they were ready for the weather, with the event running from the village hall which also served hot butties and brews – quite a bonus given the conditions. Certainly the muddiest array of finishers at any of the Championship races this year or last.

It was also the Junior Inter-Counties race. As such, the front end of each race was packed with even more super-fit youngsters than usual, including numerous who we don’t see the rest of the season (thankfully!). We had six of our regulars, running in the under 13, 15 and 17 age categories. All did great among the fearsome competition – the inter-counties will never be a top point scoring event, no matter how well they run!
