After last year’s unusually benign conditions the 2024 edition of this classic Dark Peak race took place on a blustery day with intermittent clag on the higher reaches of the route. This meant that the section from Wet Stones to Margery Hill featured a buffeting crosswind and there were a few navigational “issues” for some of the field (who shall remain nameless).
Fin Grant set off in a determined manner up the first climb, and stormed round to win in a time just a couple of minutes outside of the record – impressive stuff in the conditions.
Everyone else survived the arduous return leg through a diverse range of the Peak’s more challenging vegetation pretty much unscathed. Some even found it enjoyable…
