Fairholmes Night race

It was great to see a strong turnout on the return of a Fairholmes Night Race, not run for a few years. A number of Warts graced us with their presence and it was equally good to see a strong turnout of younger members taking up the offer to head around the race route in a group. I think this is a great way to build confidence in the style and terrain of Dark Peak races and I hope this will help convert a few more to turning up regularly to such events.
The visibility on the night was clear although a number of parties took slight wanders with the snow making the terrain and multiple trods even more confusing than normal. The climb out of the stream junction (CP2) through the frozen dead bracken field was particularly character building. It also took significant discipline to traverse all the way back along to the gate where the final checkpoint was located.
Tom and Neil chatted their way around only for Tom to leave Neil for dead on the final descent before realising Neil's torch was giving up the game on his behalf. Lisa and Des went around together and were the first ladies home reporting that they had a few confusing 'left or right' moments. Notable performances from Mr Mills who wasn't far off the leaders and Mr Adams who put in an excellent V55 time.
