Crookstone Crashout on Sun 23rd Dec 2018
34 starters, Dark Peak Races LeagueThe car parking was overflowing, not just with runners but it was necessary to paddle to the start line, through water and even to get out of the car.
Only 4 early starters set off into the gloom and compasses were needed to cross to Grindsbrook, the stream was lively but not too difficult .At the top of the climb out of gate the 2nd starters began to catch up and the rock at Hartshorn was busy! Runners then encountered some interesting route choices to get to Dean Hill with a few runners overshooting the descent. At this point several runners thought the deed was done,and reaching the Knoll sped merrily down but not in a northerly direction. Eoin in particular lost nearly 20 minutes and Dave Allen had a wander and lost a good bit, but for once young Crowson and Dave left the real wandering to Chris Lawson who eventually turned up to the relief of the anxious few scanning the hill.
Well done to Tom and Josh who were well ahead of the chasing pack and to Sarah L who likewise had time in hand on Fi. It was a long one and challenging but hopefully a fitting tribute to the races longevity. A great turn out and everyone bar Mike enjoyed it but good on him for turning out .
The Eric Mitchell trophy won by Tom in the summer was retained by him in the December Crashout, basedon the formulae drawn up by Dave Holmes. None of the other category runners ie Pete or others came close.
Next summer the return of the original, can Young bloods emulate stars of yesteryear and dip under the magic 30 minutes?
