David Bell Memorial Hoppits Hill on Sun 30th Mar 2014

69 starters

Fun and games at the Spring running of the biannual Hoppits, with five hardy brown vests braving both the killer flies and the potential wrath of their neglected mothers to complete two muddy laps of the Spinks' farm. With fully 69 entrants on this occasion, more than doubling last August's field, Graham and Josh stood on the shoulders of giants (myself, in sixteenth place), to claim the team prize (my first and only, so thanks for that gents). Meanwhile Carshare made a welcome guest appearance to relegate young Mr Winterburn to last DP place. He'll probably not admit it, but I suspect the Otley Oracle was getting in a sneaky recce of this August bank holiday's Carshare fixture. And far be it from me to crow, but that's two head-to-head victories within an hour and a half for me to celebrate over the irrepressible Mr W (who was looking decidedly pressed by the finish). Here's hoping Ossett Brewery's finest Yorkshire Blonde, and the very tasty beef sandwiches laid on by the Cricket Club, will both be in evidence again in August. Definitely more fun than the Trunce (but don't tell Andy Plummer I said so).
