Odin Mine Race

On a steamy night, drizzle and some drifting mist graced the hills,as 30 Warts ascended Mam tor and on to Lords Seat,the field was reasonably packed together and generally all seemed fine until the last 400 mtrs!

 

As confusion set in as several runners found it difficult to make sense of the tarmac ahead of them. Shane sped off to some youngsters -thinking they were the finish -he recovered in time to run in with Gavin-who slightly improved the O50s best time. Other runners admitted they were tempted to climb the fence and continue East on reaching the road but Bob excelled himself,having sped away from me on Back tor, he failed to finish? Anxious mates sped up the road in cars,put on trainers again and donned headlights fearing the worst----indeed the worst had occurred Bob had climbed the road fence and carried on to Castleton - surely a pertex bid - so near the finish and as he organised the only running of the original Mam tor and back race.

Most runners improved on last year,despite slippy conditions, with Richard, Tim H, Sarah and Penny significantly quicker.

 

It looks as though this race will become a permanent fixture.
