A good field of exactly 200 runners left Hayfield exactly 1 hour late mainly due to the efforts of a certain Eddie Torr who advertised the wrong start time in a well known local club newsletter. (Its not gospel you know, even if it sounds like it at times. Must have been a typing error - Ed)
It was warm and humid and the gallons of sweat lost by the front runners made the going very sticky for the later runners. As the race video will show it still looked at South Head like Rob was in with a chance but strange things must have happened on the return and in fact even a tired looking Ray Aucott had passed him by the finish. Dark Peak's unusual team of Aucott, Pearson, Berry, Evans and Cant actually came second to a strong Glossopdale team but the day really belonged to the Inters and Juniors for whom this was a championship race.Three Inters in the first six(incl. 1st & 3rd) and first three juniors in the first 25 put all us (very) seniors in our place. Mike Pedley should have had a prize for the person who enjoyed the race most!
Please come next year.
