Gavin had feared the CP 2 - 3 route would lead to backtracking, but thankfully it was a relief, and joy, to see runners spreadeagled along the side of Nether Tor.
The mist hung on in Woodlands Valley at the end, making the descent off the Knoll interesting. Great run by Tim Hawley just behind Mike and John - he had led at the Pines, benefitting from Sunday morning outings to this revered ground. Phil, who needs a compass and map, sped round in a splendid 4th; 1st dog was Chase.
Jim Orrell duly rang in later that day to say he was safe and well and would have been much faster but stopped to chat to Paul Sanderson and the gamekeeper, who was mole catching!
N.B. The 50th anniversary of this race series will be on December 21st - fittingly the Winter solstice. Rest assured you will get full value for money; contrary to rumours there will be no need for bivvy bags or day sacs, unless the safety officer - increasingly zealous - intervenes.

26 startersWhat a morning! Climbing up to Madwomans Stones the field of 26 stalwarts popped out of thick mist to be bathed in warm sunshine and fantastic visibility. Going underfoot was difficult, with hard rutted ground on top. Descending the bracken and tussocks was a relief, but the lengthened course, to the magnificent Three Pines, took its toll on the climb back out of Grindsbrook.Gavin had feared the CP 2 - 3 route would lead to backtracking, but thankfully it was a relief, and joy, to see runners spreadeagled along the side of Nether Tor.
