Cader Idris on Sat 27th May 2006

256 startersAfter a wet, windy and gloomy start to the day, the weather improved to just gloomy before the race started with low cloud giving poor visibility up on the mountain, for the 256 runners who started the race. After a quick start up the Cader road the route turned off road around a lake where due to the recent rain, the runners were faced with knee deep pools of water/bog/mud, after which the climb started proper and the visibility virtually ended. Thankfully plenty of marshalls were in place, especially up at the top where a poor route choice could have seen you over the edge of a very steep drop. First to come flying out of the mist on the way back down was Lloyd who held his lead (and dealt with the very slippery underfoot conditions) to win in around 01:22 ish only a minute or so off the men's record. First lady was Mary Wilkinson, who totally smashed the female record by some 9 minutes
All in all a good race with plenty of Dark Peak runners, and local support from the village. Hope the weather is better next year !!
