New race for 2026. Start/Finish by ‘Welcome to Lady Cannings Plantation’ sign in parking area at N.E. end of Houndkirk Road. A mile and a half trog along Houndkirk Road, then right through gate and due west on footpath/trod through a second gate all the way to main thoroughfare below Burbage Rocks. Left and soon right by marker post on rougher trod descending to packhorse bridge across Burbage Brook (do not cross bridge at this point). Turn right, keeping to right bank northwards on rooty footpath beside plantation fence. Drop left to brook after half a mile at point where plantation fence swings sharp right. Cross brook with care to pick up path on left-hand bank beside second plantation, continuing north and then climbing left above brook beyond plantation, to Upper Burbage Bridge. Swing south-east on uppermost path above Burbage Rocks, keeping eye out for low marker on left-hand side marking gas pipeline. After another 250m, just shy of taller white marker pole, turn left and north-east through god-awful slop all the way to Ox Stones. Bear left at Ox Stones (not straight on to trig), then keep straight descending to gate into Lady Canning’s Plantation. Keep east/north-east on main track through plantation back to start (don’t be tempted by any of the many alternatives left or right; stick to the wide thoroughfare in front of you). Full route on map.
Starts from 18:00 for slower runners, to 18:30 for the whippets. Special dispensations to set out earlier for the over 70s.
Please carry full FRA kit as a minimum, as well as a head torch and mobile phone in case of emergency and/or torch battery failure.
