Children in category A (see above):
Children must be accompanied by an adult. This doesn’t have to be a parent/carer but it should be a named adult and the child and leader should know who their responsible adult is. If you are this responsible adult, you are the one in charge of your child, just as you would be if you were out with a group of friends.
Children in category B (see above):
Children will be accompanied by a minimum of two adults, one of whom will be the run leader. If you send your child with the group, you are agreeing to the run leader taking them out for a run without you present in the same way as you would if a friend took your child out for a run. The run leader (or supporting adult) will be DBS checked and will be an experienced runner. Several regular run leaders have a qualification in running training. Parents/Carers are welcome to join the group if you would like to.
Part 2: Equipment
All runners should have appropriate kit with them each run. This should be carried by the child (or their responsible adult) in a suitable bumbag, running vest pack or equivalent.
Kit should include:
All weathers:
- Whistle
- Water
- A snack for energy
- An extra layer for emergencies (probably a waterproof)
- Suitable shoes for rough terrain, slopes & mud
Colder weather:
- Full waterproofs (top and bottom)
- Hat
- Gloves
- Extra layers as appropriate (this is not just to stay warm while running but in case the group has to stop in an emergency)
Hotter weather:
- Sun cream (possibly applied before set of)
- Sun hats
- Extra water
Some equipment could be coordinated between 2 or 3 runners (eg. one person may carry snacks for a few people) but all runners should have access to the above list plus anything else which is appropriate for making sure everyone is safe in the hills.
