Round the Parish Race Series

A new format  of race in which runners must circumnavigate the boundary of a number of parishes in the dark and white peak.  The series comprises five races. 3 short, 1 medium and 1 long. Runners must complete 3 to count for the series with at least one of the medium or long.  There may even be a trophy at the end. Some manner of complex algorithm will be used to assign points to those who complete the race.  Best 3 to count for anyone who does more than 3.
Some will start at the parish church if such a thing exists, otherwise on the boundary or maybe outside the boundary.  If at the church you must exit the parish, then run round it to the point you exited, then run back to the church.  Otherwise its just run round it without entering the parish.

A few points:

  • You do not have to hug the boundary exactly just run around the parish without entering it until you are back at the start.
  • In some cases it will be permitted to run on certain routes within the parish to avoid having to run miles along an a-road or river or climb an 8ft fence. These will be marked on the map for each route.
  • Only run on public rights of way, roads or access land – the maps will show out of bounds areas but all private land is generally OOB.
  • Should a runner “enter” the parish before fully circumnavigating it, this is considered a foul.  The penalty for such a foul is 1 minute.  Entering is defined as crossing the boundary, however, there is a small tolerance on this for times when roughly following the boundary.  This tolerance will be kept a secret to avoid people deliberately taking advantage of it (definitely not so that I can apply penalties depending on how I’m feeling on the day)
  • A highly sophisticated monitoring system will be in place using drones and satellites to ensure no one breaks any of the rules

Safety

  • These can be tricky to navigate in places as the arbitrary nature of parish boundaries and the lack of actual painted blue line on the ground means its not always that easy to know where they are when bashing through undergrowth.  Please bring with you some common sense and appropriate clothing for the weather (full FRA kit if its really bad).  If you are new to navigating please run with someone who is not.
  • Under 18s are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult, (if there are any of those in the club).
