Three Tops on Sat 9th Nov 2024

12 starters, Dark Peak Races League
A perfect day for running on the moorlands of the Peak – cool, calm and
unusually dry underfoot for this time of year. Indeed, the bog monster was in an
unusually benign mood. As usual the anti-clockwise route proved more popular
with only two athletes taking the clockwise option. (In this race the Three Tops –
Outer Edge, Margery Hill and Pike Lowe can be visited in any order.) Our Captain
set off as though he meant business and duly proceeded to knock a substantial
chunk of time off the race record. The new race organiser just managed to hold
onto the Eric Mitchell trophy which is based on an age-adjusted handicap system.
(Feel free to check my calculations if this seems suspicious...) Perhaps the most
noteworthy performance of the day came from the evergreen V80 Barry Needle.
The instigator of this fine moorland outing also put in an appearance on Pike
Lowe – and provided Mountain Rescue cover which fortunately was not required.
